Epimenides may have been born in Crete, but that never stopped him from discrediting that fact that he didn't like the people from his native land. He is the one Titus speaks of when he says, "one of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and slow bellies." When it came to Epimenides, though, it was an entirely different story. He was born with a white light streak in him at birth. It took him a while to cope with these powers and how to get in touch with them, but he eventually did. By his own accounts,Epimenides entered into a mythic cave and fell asleep for 57 years. Now, this could be metaphorical, as are many things in mythical doctrine, but one thing is for sure: whenEpimenides came out of his deep sleep, he was in tip-top shape, having received a white light awakening. His magic and white light powers earned him the name the Great Sage.
The Great Sage was once called upon by the Athenian Senate after they had suffered great famine. There were even demons roaming the street, causing great pandemonium and inflicting devilish torture on the people in the city. Epimenides showed up, performed some religious rites and that was the end of the famine. He not only sent the demons back to Hell where they belong, but also rid the entire city of any type of evil they may have had lurking. He put the city under a white light protection spell. He returned to Athens later to utter magic prophecies and cure people, and raise people from the dead. Sound like anyone else we know? He spent the rest of his days a superlative philosopher, issuing edicts that people took very seriously.
