HAMINGJA BLOODLINE
It's nice to wish a person luck with anything, but what is "Luck"? Is luck some unseen force or energy that certain individuals have discovered a way to tap into and use for their own means? Could luck have something to with a certain alignment of events or planets that coincide with a person's birthday or some other significant period of their lives? Is luck bestowed on a person who just happens to be carrying around a bauble or trinket that causes that Gods to smile favorably upon them? Is luck just simply karmic payback for good deeds that a person is being rewarded for, and conversely rescinded from them if they're guilty of doing something maligned to another person- a mirror of their actions good or bad? What if luck were a spirit that followed each individual around as a type of "Guardian Angel" and made sure that good things came to them?
There is a belief in Norse Mythology known as "hamingja" (the Old Norse word for "luck") that is an actual personification of good fortune that has a physical form- much like that of a "Guardian Angel". The belief goes on to say that the hamingja is bound to an specific individual or in some cases an entire bloodline. This spirit is responsible for a person's luck, which encompasses wealth, fame, love, success, and other things attributed to a person who is "doing well" in life. There doesn't appear to be a balancing system in place for the hamingja, whether your deeds are good or bad- the hamingja is just there to ensure that you are protected before, during, and after. It is believed though, that the more good a person does- the stronger their hamingja becomes, but it does seem that there are evil people out there who have no shortage of good luck- so this is an issue for debate.
The belief in this type of "Guardian Spirit" permeates all cultures, religions, and theologies- they may have different names, but their basic function is the same in all of them. This is why some people are named after an ancestor, an elder, or in some cases directly after a parent- this practice is hopefully to draw more power or energy from their families protective spirit, whether it's bound to the family as a whole or a specific family member. They are hoping that the guardian feels a closer connection with that person OR that the spirit that watched over that individual in the past will bond with the child he/she is named after as a sign of respect.
This piece is truly exciting, although it did take quite a while to figure out what it did exaclty. While it was clear early on that it attracted spirits- many did not communicate with us and the ones that were gracious enough to, simply said, "bound to another" or "not of our ilk". These crpytic messages were extremely perplexing until one of them revealed themselves to one of our investigators and said, "bound we are, as before"- then the mystery was cleared up in an instant. This particular entity was the guardian spirit of our investigator's lineage and shared the name of this person's ancestor- making the bond even stronger. After this exchange, the person's life began to change dramatically- in every facet of their life. They passed this knowledge on to us, so now we have a better understanding of what this piece is, and more importantly, what it is capable of doing.
There are many factors that lead to our separation from our guardian spirits, whether they are general negativity (who wants to be around THAT guy?), apathy, or just simply disbelief in any higher power- this piece will restore that connection and pluck from the ether the guardian spirit that has been bound to your bloodline many centuries before your birth.
